List Price: Recap Of Star Wars At The Arbutus Library Star Wars descended on the Arbutus Public Library in Maryland this past Saturday for an event that promised costumes, crafts, activities and fun. I've posted about these types of events for years now, but my previous job had me working all weekends so I had never had a chance to attend one. In my new real estate venture, I have a lot more flexibility with my schedule. So when my cousin's wife alerted me to the event, I couldn't wait to bring the family for a little GFFA fun.
We (my 3 year old Mason, my 6 year old Landon and my ___ year old wife Michele) arrived promptly at 2:00PM and were ushered into the Arbutus Public Library Meeting Room. We received a paper indicating that we had a number of activities to complete. As you completed each activity, you earned a sticker of accomplishment. The event seemed quite Free Comic Book Day is a hitForget the expression “You can’t get anything for free.” Saturday is Free Comic Book Day and participating local stores are celebrating with visits from comic book artists, costumed characters, raffles, food, music and, of course, free comics! A national event started in 2002, Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) exalts everything from Marvel, DC Comics and Star Wars to the Simpsons, Peanuts and Disney. This year, The Avengers will be highlighted, in advance of the Avengers film opening Friday. So how does FCBD work? Shop owners purchase the comic books themselves, at a discounted rate, and offer them free to patrons. The number of comic books given to each person depends on the individual store. Dan Hare, owner of The Toys Time Forgot in Canal Fulton, has celebrated FCBD every year since its inception and tries to make it a bigger deal every year. One family has been visiting him on FCBD for the past six or seven years — from Virginia. “I don’t want to let anyone down. It’s all for the kids,” he says. Visitors will be treated to more than 40 titles of free comic books — with up to three for each visitor — along with raffles, stickers, balloons and other comic-themed items.
